JUST WORDS

The process of mark making rests at the core of this series of work.

The process includes the reproduction of journal entries as large-scale drawings using ink on paper. A typewriter from the 1940's is used to retype carefully selected phrases. The hard metal typewriter arms often pierce the soft archival paper used to type on and the words are not always clear due to the age of the ink ribbon. The process results in a beautiful texture that is a comforting contrast to the perfection of text often experienced on a digital screen. A photocopier is then used to enlarge the typed text pages before they are reproduced as pointillist drawings.
